May 2007 – Movies that get people talking
by Katherine Dedyna
Art, activism and disability are the starting point for a funny and intimate portrait of five surprising individuals including Persimmon Blackbridge, Catherine Frazee, Geoffrey McMurchy and David Roche. Director Bonnie Sherr Klein (Not a Love Story, Speaking Our Peace), a pioneer of women’s cinema, returns to a career interrupted by a catastrophic stroke in 1987. Always the activist, she now turns the lens on the world of disability culture and ultimately, the transformative power of art.
Watch for details of OPEN CINEMA’s upcoming 5th season of thought-provoking films followed by community discussion, starting October 2007. An opportunity to dine, drink and think!
